Indian IT leader joins 2008 K12 Online Education Initiative

Washington-DC -- C.Umashankar IAS., (TamilNadu Cadre) e-governance expert & Managing Director, of ELCOT (Electronic Corporation of TamilNadu Limited, Chennai) Has joined the EDUIT, Inc Board of Directors. EDUIT (Education, Information Technology) is the nonprofit behind K12 and who will be securing research funding to help develop the initiative.

The goal of K12 is flatten global K-12 education by putting online its complete courseware (initial focus will be on science and math) and present it in a simple, immersive, fun, game format and run on open-source software; and accessible via any broadband device: w:olpc, cell, pda, psp. An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer allotted to the Tamil Nadu cadre.
